Adopt-A-Widow/widower: call, remember his/her birthday, send flowers/candy on other special days,
attend a community function with him/her once in a while, or just have lunch
together.
- Antiques: collect, refinish, sell, shop
- Baby sit: for family, friends, church, co-operative
- Bake: new recipes, old favorites, for yourself, friends, party, church group, retirement home
- Bookstore: browse the store for new and other books in lots of categories
- Build: dog house, bird feeder, patio, deck
- Bus: take bus ride across town or to a shopping mall on bus route
- Car: wash, clean inside, fix up, touch-up, clean up, shop for trade, read about
- Checkbook: balance, pay bills
- Clean: house, appliances, closets
- Clothes: wash, iron, mend, arrange closet, pick out some to give away
- Collect: coins, stamps, dolls, mugs, sports memorabilia, etc.
- Computers: learn new language, take courses, learn new software, repair
- Cook: new and exotic dishes, for friends, for self.
- Create: something from sewing, hobby
- Drive: around city, to nearby town, to interesting tourist site, to scenic spot
- Encourage: write, e-mail, phone, visit someone else who needs a good word of ncouragement to lift their spirits
- Exercise: in doors at home, outdoors in yard, at gym, at the track
- Entertain yourself: go to theater, movies, play, concert, ball game, bowling lanes
- Flea market: go shopping
- Flowers: plant, water, pick for bouquet, take to someone sick or feeling down
- Furniture: buy, rearrange, fix, clean, upholster
- Games: play solitaire or computer/video games, invite others over to play table games, put together 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, invent new game
- Garage: clean, rearrange, paint, etc.
- Gift shopping: for upcoming birthdays, graduations, weddings, etc.
- Hobbies: crafts, paint, sew, photography, leather craft, candle making, magic tricks, etc.
- House: clean, dust, paint, fix-up, etc.
- Internet: learn, surf, research, discover, create your own web site, engage in social media, etc.
- Invent: better products, join inventor's club, etc.
- Iron: clothes, linen, etc.
- Kitchen: mop floor, rearrange shelves, clean refrigerator & stove
- Lawn: mow, spray, manicure, plant flowers, water grass, remove dandelions
- Learn: take classes for credit and/or non-credit, study on own
- Library: read books, magazines, other cities' newspapers, do research, check out video documentaries.
- Mall: eat at, shop, walk for exercise, talk with other shoppers/sales clerks, buy if you must

- Organize: interest groups, political groups, support groups, service groups
- Paint: house, dog house, toys, portraits, "by number," free-lance
- Patio/porch: build, expand, clean, rearrange
- Pets: train, walk, bathe, feed, groom
- Photography: take pictures, develop own film, arrange photo album
- Play: games at home, in backyard, at recreation center

- Television: search for good movies, fun sitcoms, interesting documentaries,

- Travel: plan trip, take short trip, gather cruise and vacation information
- Volunteer: at hospital, hospice, church, service agencies, be personal shopper for invalid
- Write: take writing course, practice writing (prose, poetry, short stories, news articles), research potential publishers for your material (newspapers, magazines, book publishers).
